10 Ways To Practice More Efficiently

  1. Listen to the piece and follow along with the score (the sheet music).

  2. Identify Repeated sections in the music. 

  3. Finds patterns that you are familiar with. (scales, arpeggios, and chromatic passages)

  4. Break apart a piece of music into small sections, typically done by breaking apart musical phrases.

  5. Play hands separately.  

  6. Once you can play the piece in small sections, create fewer larger sections. 

  7. Play with a metronome. 

  8. Play through the piece slowly without errors. 

  9. Gradually speed up the piece with a metronome. (remember to pay attention to dynamic and technique marks)

  10. Play through the piece through from memory without a metronome.
