online lesson tips

Requirements:

For online lessons, you will need:

  • A device with a built-in web-cam (phone, tablet, or computer)

  • A platform such as Skype or Zoom

  • A good internet connection (at least 5-10 mbps)

Setup:

  • To get the most out of online lessons, it is important that your device is positioned so that your teacher can see both you and your instrument.

  • Try to have your device’s camera setup to capture you and your instrument in a well lit room.

  • You will want to complete the set-up 5-10 minutes before your lesson begins.

Additional Tips:

  • Have your sheet music/book, assignment notebook, and a pencil with you before lessons begin. Students will need a pencil to mark their own music. A pencil is preferred, not pens or markers.

  • Make sure you have a metronome with you before your lesson starts.

  • Your teacher may choose to email your assignment to you or have you write it.

  • Mark all measure numbers in your music. Your teacher will refer to your music using measure numbers. Most music has measure numbers at the start of each line, but it is helpful to have each measure numbered above the music. You can do this before your lesson begins.

  • Headphones and a microphone may be helpful to use during your lesson.
